For candidates who wish to pursue MBBS or BDS programs, NEET entrance examination is mandatory. To secure admission to any medical college in India, be it a private or a government medical college, NEET is a mandatory exam.

The central board of secondary education conducts the NEET exam for all India MBBS seats every year.

For total MBBS seats in India, there are no other national level entrance examinations other than NEET. Admission to all the esteemed medical colleges in India including the AIIMS and JIPMER is on the basis of marks scored in the NEET.

In India, out of total MBBS seats, which include government medical and dental colleges have 15% seats reserved for all India quota and are filled on the basis of NEET counseling.
