PAASCU is generally a service association that accredits, or quality guarantees educational programs of its member academies and does institutional accreditation.

The major objective of PAASCU is to support member academies in their journey towards quality advancement that’s grounded in the institution’s academic philosophy moreover as its exceptional vision and mission.

What Does it Mean if a School is PAASCU Accredited?

Candidate Status

For programs that have experienced a Preliminary Survey Visit and are authorized by the Federation/Network as being competent of acquiring accredited status within 2 years

Level I Accredited Status

For programs that have been awarded initial accreditation after a Formal Survey by the accrediting agency and rightly approved by the Federation/Network adequate for a span of 3 years.

Level II Re-accredited Status

For programs that have been re-accredited by the accrediting agency and properly certified by the Federation/Network effective for the duration of 3 or 5 years depending on the evaluation of the accrediting agency.

Level III Re-Accredited Status

For programs that have been re-accredited and have fulfilled the additional measures/policies set by the Federation/Network for this level.

Level IV Accredited Status

Programs that have been accredited and highly appreciated as very high-quality educational programs in the Philippines and with reputation and authority relative to equal programs in superior foreign universities.


What is the Highest PAASCU Accreditation?

Level IV is the highest level of accredited status that is assigned to tertiary academic programs as specified in the Memorandum Order Number 1 Series of 2005 of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This status is awarded to academic programs that have indicated excellent results in the areas of learning, research, teaching and community service, and international associations and consortia

Among the advantages relished by higher education institutions that have been awarded such status is

  • Complete autonomy for the program for the span of its Level IV accredited status.
  • Command to deliver new courses (undergraduate or graduate) associated with existing Level IV courses, distance education/open learning, and extension classes without the need for initial permission by CHED delivered that the concerned CHED Regional Office is rightly notified
  • Power to change/modify the curriculum without CHED consent provided the CHED and Professional Regulation Commission minimum conditions and guidelines are followed with
  • Supremacy to graduate students from accredited programs without earlier approval of CHED and without the necessity for special orders
  • Preference in the awards of subsidies/grants or funding assistance from CHED-Higher Education Development Fund (HEDF) for scholarships and faculty evolution, facilities advancement, and other expansion programs.


PAASCU Accreditation Requirements

The criteria for different levels of accreditation in higher studies are indicated in the table that follows:

Level I

Granted initial accreditation by the accrediting agency after a formal survey and duly certified by the Federation/Network for the 3 years

Level II

Programs that have been re-accredited by the accrediting agency and duly certified by the Federation/Network for a period of 3 or 5 years as determined by the accrediting agency.

Level III

To apply for Level III an institution or program must fulfill the following requirement:

- Present proof to prove that the organization has a well high standard of education.

- List the community extension programs in the institution. Describe briefly the nature of the programs.

- A strong faculty development tradition as evidenced by an appropriate budget allocation or a systematic plan for faculty development programs.

- Existence of operating consortia or linkages with different colleges or agencies. Documentary proof shall comprise an illustration of nature, mechanism, performing agreements, and further details of consortia.

- An extremely worthy performance of its graduates in licensure tests over the previous 3 years.

- Extensive and functional resources library and other learning facilities.

Level IV

Accredited programs which are regarded as very high-quality academic programs in the Philippines, with prestige and authority comparable to similar programs in excellent foreign universities.
