Overview

To impart education to the financially challenged boys, Central Philippine University was founded as the Jaro Industrial School by missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society, in the year 1905.

The university changed its name to Central Philippine College in 1923 when it opened its junior college program. CPU received its university status in 1953.

Central Philippine University present in the Philippines is one of the best universities in the Visayan Islands. It is a private research university located in Iloilo City, Philippines. The medical school of Central Philippine University was established in 2003 and it is known as the Central Philippine University College of Medicine or more commonly referred to as CPU-ColMed or ColMed.

The idea of a medical school was conceived in the early 1930s. CPU-ColMed has been considered as one of the newest colleges of the university.
