The Central University of Punjab (CUPB) was created through the statute of the Parliament no 25 in 2009. As a scholarly institution, CUPB is placed 89th in the national ranking among the top 100 universities of India focused on research in the National Institutional Ranking Framework in the year 2019.
The university has been awarded an "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Central University of Punjab also has recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
