Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science was established in the year 1985 and was converted into a university known as Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) in the year 2007. It is a deemed-to-be University approved by UGC, AICTE, AIMA, International SAE and the ,American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics. It is a member of AIU and is accredited with IAO NBA and NAAC with A+ Grade. Currently, the university has over 100 courses for the students of UG and PG levels across multiple streams such as Engineering, Management, Law, Humanities, Science, etc.

HITS offers several UG and PG programs in different streams such as engineering, technology, architecture, management, law, fashion design, aviation, applied sciences, allied sciences, and arts.  Admissions in HITS, Chennai are based on entrance exams like HITSEEE, HITSCAT, TNEA, TANCET, GATE, NATA, JEE Main, and CAT. 

HITS placement rate is approximately 93.94% in its 2023-24 placement drives. The highest package was  ₹7 lakhs per annum and the average package was ₹4.6 lakhs per annum. The list of top recruiters who participated in HITS placement includes but is not limited to  Accenture, Capgemini, Wipro, Mphasis, HCL, Tech Mahindra, and Cognizant.

However, the college generally known as HITS also provides distance education at its Centre for Online and Distance Learning (CODL) which offers full and part-time courses. These courses are delivered through 13 schools and the Centre of Studies in various departments on the campus.

​Regarding admission, Hindustan University accepts valid scorecards in respective entrance tests for all its courses. From the Science, Commerce, Humanities, Management, and Law streams for most UG courses, the University conducts its own entrance exam known as HITSCAT. For the BTech course, students can apply via HIS, which is also an entrance test conducted by Hindustan University. Besides that, the students can also seek admission in various national-level entrance examinations for certain courses, including CLAT/ GATE/ UGC – NET.

To be admitted to the LLB course at Hindustan University, a candidate needs to take the HITS CAT examination. Once a candidate clears the entrance examination, the final process is group discussion and personal interviews.

​The passage of placement at HITS is managed by the exclusive Career Development Cell (CDC). It comprises several activities such as resume preparation, soft interviews, IQ tests, and self-development sessions before final selection. On-campus recruitment, that is, the placement drive, is usually conducted whereby different companies with high reputations around the country come to the campus to recruit students.

The salary offered in the placements of the students of HITS annually differs from course to course and department to department. But on average, the salary for the 2023 batch was around ₹ 4 to 6 lakhs per annum for the salary package. But for branches in high demand like Computer Science, the package can go high.

Yes, internships are part of the student placement process and are conducted regularly at HITS. According to the university study program, students are encouraged to take internships to gain practical experience, hence increasing their chances of getting a job.
