Overview
IIT Madras, also known as the ‘Institute of Eminence’ was established in 1959 as a public technical and research university. It is an autonomous university that was the third IIT college to be set up in India. IIT Madras is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and has India’s first university-based research park (IITMR) on its campus. As per the NIRF rankings 2024, the college has ranked #1 (for the consecutive sixth year) in the ‘Overall’ category, #1 in the ‘Engineering’ category, #2 in the ‘Research’ category, and #2 in the ‘Innovation’ category.
