The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science - (IACS) is a renowned scientific research institution based in Kolkata. IACS, founded in 1876 by Dr. Mahendralal Sircar, a well-known physician at the time, is Asia's oldest scientific institution, financed by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and the West Bengal Government. Sir C.V. Raman made the groundbreaking discovery of the 'Raman Effect' at IACS. It continues to boost India's and the world's reputation for academic and intellectual excellence.  IACS offers a doctoral program, PhD, and combined M.Sc.-Ph.D. choices in a variety of scientific areas. Admissions

The institute is affiliated with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and conducts research in physics, chemistry, and chemical biology. IACS offers an Integrated Bachelor's and Master's degree in Science (B.Sc-M.Sc), an Integrated Master's and Ph.D. program in Biological Science (Int. M.Sc-Ph.D), and a Ph.D. programme. Admission to UG-PG and Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D. programs is based on an institute-organized entrance examination. Applicants for UG-PG must take the UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (UPST), while candidates for International M.Sc-Ph.D. must pass the Master's Pre-Interview Screening Test (MPST). The final decision is based on the Interview phase.

Applicants to the Ph.D. program are evaluated based on their academic performance as well as their UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE/JEST or other comparable national test results. Nonetheless, those who make the shortlist are then invited to a written test and/or an interview.
